Crease House: Interior Brick Walls

This new-build brick house in London, Kensington, is built with hand-made warm grey bricks to the interior and exterior, laid in the same monk bond pattern, with the identical mortar. This bond was traditionally used in monasteries until the 13th and 14th century, due to the limited use of headers and therefore lower cost to lay.
By using the identical material, bond and surface within and outside the house not only do we weave together inside and out, but we enable the surfaces and textures of traditionally external environments to become part of the structure of the interior spaces.
