Our design for the new memorial is inseparable from the development of a strategy for the entire National Memorial Arboretum site, integrating architecture, landscape and sculpture. We intend there to be no divisions between the different disciplines, but rather propose an evolving environment demonstrating a common sensibility towards landscape, memory, time, place, light and material through the use of trees and planting, stone and water.
Our main materials would be water and stone; one ephemeral, elusive and fluid, the other solid, architectural and defined. It is our intention to use these two basic materials to form spaces of very different character and meaning.
Sculptor: Paul de Monchaux
