The Swartberg House on the edge of the Great Karoo desert in South Africa has been published in Living in the Desert, a Phaidon book of architect-designed houses which are all sited in deserts across the globe. The projects explore how architects have worked to with the challenges and opportunities of building in extreme environments.

Our passive solar house takes the tradition of desert building and creates a minimalist contemporary language in which the connection to the colours, space, light and landscapes of the desert are given prominence.
